Philippe is a celebrated homegrown screenwriter / director who has become a fixture at festivals like Cannes, Locarno, Angoulême, Berlin, and Toronto, as well as a regular at the Gémeaux, Canadian Screen, and Gala Québec Cinéma awards. His films investigate relationships, friendship, and life’s hardships with uncommon empathy and sensitivity. His directing credits include La Moitié gauche du frigo, Congorama, C’est pas moi, je le jure!, Monsieur Lazhar (winner of 7 Jutra awards and an Oscar nominee), The Good Lie, Guibord s’en va-t-en guerre, Chuck, My Salinger Year, and Mille secrets mille dangers. He directed the powerful documentary series Lac-Mégantic: ceci n’est pas un accident and the dramatic series Le temps des framboises. Both of these illustrate his unique talent for illuminating all the hidden corners of the human experience, regardless of genre. Philippe is truly one of Quebec’s great filmmakers, whose work shines just as brightly here as it does abroad.
